<lj:music>Nada Surf - Zen Brain</lj:music>

2005. the year i ... did stuff.

honestly, all i can remember from the first half of the year was a lot of music, a lot of laughs, spending time with my friends and then breaking my foot whilst sober in a nightclub. oh, and buying my return ticket to london.

on the june long weekend, i celebrated both my birthday and farewell in style - karaoke, ferry corsten, a massive drinks night, and we love sounds.

on june 14th, i got on a flight to london, uk with a 40L backpack and hotfooted around Europe and the UK for the next three months.

when i was travelling, i fell inlove with that feeling of complete and utter freedom - and the very moment when you realise that you ARE completely and utterly free. i loved seeing new and different places. i loved gawking at the beauty of some of the landscapes in europe. i loved meeting people from all sorts of different backgrounds and exchanging ideas and sharing stories. some highlights from my trip include:

falling inlove with luxembourg city's geography

amsterdam, the netherlands

getting completely lost in the back streets of venice

seeing sigur ros in paris; seeing the pixies, teenage fanclub and idlewild in edinburgh

antwerp, belgium; the salsa club which was apparently "down by the water, and to the right"; a day at the lake, belgian beer and the best hostel in the world.

the train trip from austria into switzerland; the canadian girl who loved david sedaris too, and watching the beautiful scenery go by

sucking on 10p ice pops in glastonbury with richie; being told i was a pussy for using scissors instead of my teeth to tear the plastic off by pat

a day and night of trance with louise and nerida; nerida's mini electric fan, dancing to happy hard, the strange 2 hour busride home

camden markets, london

text to paul "i'm standing on a hill at sunset watching ferry corsten - magical! i just wanted you to be a part of it man!"

ola, the beautiful old woman i met on the train from sweden to denmark and her timeless advice to me - "appreciate every moment that you have, no matter how small or large."

when i got back from travelling at the end of september, i blew the rest of my savings on a long weekend trip to melbourne with some lovely sydney girls for shopping, dancing and good times.

then my year took a very strange turn, commonly known as the post travel depression where suddenly i felt aimless and directionless, and overcome with that annoying feeling of self awareness, and the realisation that now i really did have to do everything that i had been putting off for so long.

i think i am still finding my feet in the world and figuring out what it is i should be doing and want to be doing.

on the romantic front, it was a year of almosts... but not quites. but many moments i look back at fondly.

oh and on the career side of things, i finished up working at the Department of Education in June this year and it was a grand place to work... or at least, the people i worked with were pretty amazing. In October i started temping at Fairfax, where i currently still am. i KNOW its not a role i want to keep for a long time, and i'm still deciding if its somewhere i want to work. it seems a lot of people i know there who i like and respect are leaving - and its making me question whether the company really is for me or not. but we'll see.

i have learnt a lot this year... among other things, i learnt that i can do anything i put my mind to. and (almost) nothing is impossible. i also developed a whole new appreciation and love for my parents, and for my friends - and realised how strong a friendship i have with some of them. and that life is FAR too short to put up with bullshit from other people.

and the general consensus is i haven't changed much.. but my outlook has changed, and maybe i've even grown up a little bit, in a few ways...

... as for 2006. well its anybody's guess really. no expectations and no fears. i'm just going to take it as it comes and hope (or know?) that things always have a way of working out, in some form or another..

and lots of good times, i hope :)
